Just getting caught up on the last couple of days... dog house latch, teak trim bits, stickers the works... all look great. I too really like that threaded bolt latch. Man... all is looking great!!!

Down to the short list now.

Finish the trim over the seam in the floor vinyl as well as around the cup holder opening in the dog house. Done

Anchor the lower section of the dog house Done

Install and wire the batteries for the trolling motor.

Install the Humminbird. Almost done

Anchor the rear seat storage boxes.

Install the bimini top and make the privacy curtain for the Porttopotty. Done

Secure the trim around the bow floor storage.

Install the new tires on the trailer once they arrive. Done

Install the horn.

WHEW. :target:

Thanks Guys, me too on the splash, but the way the weather is going this spring the SS will be done long before the water is ready.

let's see.....airboat motor and prop, a couple of skids to stabilize the deep vee, and you're all ready for the other 7 months of the year......

New tires gave me almost 2.5"s of clearance, I will post up some photos when the snow quits (if it ever does).

I have a brochure for the 1986 SS line, it says the dry weight of the 201 is 1400lbs. I always thought they included the motor and outdrive in the dry weight of an I/O? Obviously they didn't on this one. Took her to the scale on Friday morning and she weighs in at a portly 2420lbs, dry with out the trolling motor and batteries, that's another 200lbs plus 43 gallons of fuel and gear. Gross weight on the trailer was 3410lbs. So the final all up weight on trailer will be slightly over 4000lbs. So much for Starcraft matching the right trailer to the boat, the trailer in it's OEM single axle configuration is only rated at 3500lbs, no wonder the axle was bent and the tires worn so bad on the inside. When I brought her home she must have been well over 5000# with all the wet foam and wood.

Maybe you should have put snow tires on her. :watermelon: You're making a good point about the weight. I look at the spec charts and do a lot of head scratching. Sometime the numbers make no sense, especially I/Os. It's good that you know what you have and the extra axle was a good call. I've never bought a new boat from a dealer but I see ads in boat mags saying trailer included from the manufacturer. And a lot with no trailer mentioned, so I guess the dealer is making the call on boat/trailer matching in those cases.

Thats great info on weight n' such Glen. I've assumed all along that my Islander should be around the 2400# mark when I get all done. That's kinda out the window eh!

That's interesting Glen. I too have wondered about the total weight factor of our rigs. While I haven't weighed the Jup, I suspect the weight is more than what was published. Judging by what it feels like towing vs hauling an known weight of rocks in my utility trailer --- ya I'd say the published weight is a little light!

SNOW!!! Really? Man... I really hope that stays north of us!!! Here's hoping spring is really around the corner!

I was real surprised at the weight, going to have to weigh the 18 SS to see the difference in the two, hope I'm not too heavy to tow behind the fifth wheel.

Okay, been a while since I updated my progress, such as it is, Pictures of the low profile tires installed






An my Bimini top install. It is a the biggest one I could find 8ft long x 8ft wide, the SS makes it look small. I installed 3ft tracks on the gunwals so I can adjust the top front and rear, but should have gone with 4ft, so they are on the way





Folded up with the boot on.

A little more on the top, I wrestled with how to put up a privacy curtain/change room with out having a complicated tubing structure or what have you. This is what I came up with.
I sewed 1" nylon tabs with snaps to the underside of the Bimini top.



Then proceeded to give the old Singer another workout making the curtain.





It takes just a couple minutes to snap the enclosure in place, and when it is not in use it can go in this unused boat cover storage bag.

That porta potty solution is awesome. You're def your showing your feminine side with all that sewing skill. :lol:


Just a thought....some detachable fabric sides for the Bimini would be awesome also. They would block a lot of sunlight if at times, you wanted complete shade under the Bimini.
