Re: 77 Starcraft Holiday 18 i/o - rebuild with pics galore
It's bolted in place now. Four 3/8 - 4 inch stainless bolts with 5200 slathered on the bolts and all over the back of the starboard.
I sanded the alum where the starboard is going with 100 grit and cleaned it up with acetone. I also flamed the back of the starboard with a torch to cook off some of the slime and to get it a very slight texture for the 5200 to bite to.
The bolts are all above the waterline. The transducer and pitot tube pickup will get screwed into the starboard this weekend and with any luck I'll have a chance to try out the fishfinder on the driveway to see how the gps works and to give it a firmware update.
The piece was originally screwed onto place until I could bolt re-drill the holes with 3/8 bit. I'll re-drill some of the holes I filled above the starboard to run the transducer cable and pitot tube. I'll pick up some stainless clamshell type covers and clamps to secure everything in place. All screws will be 3/4 of an inch or less so nothing goes through the starboard.
The starboard is also about a 1/4 inch or so up off the bottom of the hull. It might be overkill but it doesn't look that much out of place and I have room for transducers galore and any other cool junk that comes out in the future. Maybe a led light or something
