Hey sprintst,
New is always good, The new wire looks pretty good.Replacing old wire is probably the best insurance against a repeat.
The fire extinguisher in the garage would keep you from burning down the house.

Take care

And there is a Talking Heads song in that one. Wires look nice and safe now. Bummer on the tank fill hose.

I wired up the bilge blower up and it's working as expected. I used the packard style connectors so it can be quickly connected/disconnected and the connectors are waterproof as well.

I'll post some pics in the event someone wants to do something along the sames lines. All my accessories, lighting, etc are hooked up all the same way now.

What kind of knob runs a boat without an oil pressure warning light/buzzer or gauge. I looked at mine and the power from the run/start side of the ignition wasn't hooked up. Cross one more thing off the list. When it comes time to redo the dash I'll by a brand new light/warning buzzer that picks up over temp or low oil pressure. It'll be a Cole Hersee 4112-RC000 Buzzer/LED Pilot Light ?Dual Alarm? BP

There are some shots of the black 3/4 inch Starboard piece that I'm thinking of bolting on the stern to mount the transducer, etc. My transom looked like swiss cheese so never again.

I also found my US Coast Guard capacity plate that I will be remounting. Turns out I can get a new one made as the CDN plate is required even though I have a US one.

Here's some pics of the cardboard template I made of where the Starboard will go. It's cut to follow the bottom of the hull and sit about a 1/4 inch up. You can see the line where the water line is so to speak.

I'll bolt it up above the water line with 5200 on the backside with dovetail type grooves routed in the back of the starboard so the 5200 has something to anchor to even though it'll have 4 bolts in it. All accessories will get screwed with 3/4 screws. The back of the starboard will also get flames with a torch to cook off the chemical layer on the surface and to texture it slightly.

It's bolted in place now. Four 3/8 - 4 inch stainless bolts with 5200 slathered on the bolts and all over the back of the starboard.

I sanded the alum where the starboard is going with 100 grit and cleaned it up with acetone. I also flamed the back of the starboard with a torch to cook off some of the slime and to get it a very slight texture for the 5200 to bite to.

The bolts are all above the waterline. The transducer and pitot tube pickup will get screwed into the starboard this weekend and with any luck I'll have a chance to try out the fishfinder on the driveway to see how the gps works and to give it a firmware update.

The piece was originally screwed onto place until I could bolt re-drill the holes with 3/8 bit. I'll re-drill some of the holes I filled above the starboard to run the transducer cable and pitot tube. I'll pick up some stainless clamshell type covers and clamps to secure everything in place. All screws will be 3/4 of an inch or less so nothing goes through the starboard.

The starboard is also about a 1/4 inch or so up off the bottom of the hull. It might be overkill but it doesn't look that much out of place and I have room for transducers galore and any other cool junk that comes out in the future. Maybe a led light or something :)

sprintst,
Let us know how it work out. Should be ok since it's not sticking below the bottom of the boat.
It's an interesting Idea.
Good luck, I hope it works out as planed.

I was on a roll. I got the transducer loosely mounted and when I went to tighten it up the transducer mounting bracket cracked. I just e-mailed Hummingbird so we'll see how quickly I can get a new one.

Tomorrow I might have a few minutes so I'll get the pitot tube and speedo pickup mounted and get the cables routed, etc.

How far below the bottom of the hull is the transducer mounted??

From the pictures it looks to low which will create drag,....

Yeah. The bracket broke so I didn't get a chance to finish the final adjustment. It's just hanging until I get a chance to remount it :)

For now it's kind of just pointing down and with the angle of the photo it looks waay out of whack.

Got the pitot tube pickup mounted. The tip of the pickup needs to be 1.5 inches below the hull as per the instructions from the manufacturer (Marpac). Used #6 pan head ss screws in case anyone was wondering.

I also used some rubber wiring routing grommets that looked to be the right size to finish off my blower vents on the rear deck. The old brittle plastic ones were falling apart.

Looks good sprintst,
I like the idea of fewer holes in the hull,
bummer about the mounting bracket, hopefully they will get another to you quick.
Take care

I used a Goodyear fuel hose. They have really good price per square foot.

They did. Hummingbird got back to me right away and said a bracket was no charge and is on it's way as we speak. I'm quite impressed actually :)

I'll definately keep in touch and will come visit this summer. I owe you another beer and stogie from what I recall. Now you can see where I used the Starboard I had shipped to you :)

I got rid of my facebook account as every woman I've ever said hi to somehow found me. I'll make a more anonymous one and will defiantely keep in touch.

Sprintst,
I really don't like the cold anymore, It's even cold here right now... I had to put a jacket on tonight. It only got into the 70's today.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Glad to hear that Hummingbird took care of you.
