Thanks alot guys. I am having at hard time getting motivated this morning after all that sanding yesterday.

As far as the youtube thing goes, I think there is a mod that allows you to use the [youtube] code like you do with the pictures. I wonder if the mods would install it?

So I got a little motivated and went outside and leveled out what I put down yesterday. I also put down the last coat of bilgecoat.

That looks awesome. I hope my bilge comes out that good. You have inspired me to paint EVERYTHING else in the hull except the deck and bilge with rustoleum.

Thanks Keith, I really like the way it came out too. So I went to the website to order my Durabak and their order page is not secure... go figure. So I will call them tomorrow and see what gives. They also have a small roller pictured, and I want the larger one.

Well I just ordered the Durabak and they said it might now be here until next week. That is a bummer.

Jay, i'm not sure where you are on the carb, but I have been reading up like crazy on the q-jets and have one at home on my kitchen table. I think I am going to set it up for my boat engine to play around with.

I have not started to rebuild it yet. I think I am just going to have a shop rebuild it, as I do not have a large bucket of cleaner to soak it in.

$20 at autozone for the bucket. When I did my 2G I just used cans of carb cleaner and the wand attachment with a brush on my dremel.

Frisco,

I am a budget Spreadsheet type of guy. I am compliing all of the info and pricing on products that I need. I will be doing the same job you are on your boat and was wondering if you could help a bit.

Did you replace the motor mounts or just the transom? what about the wood on either side of the transom? sorry if I missed that info, sometimes I can be a bit dense!!!

2nd:

How much material did you use total?
how much resin, CSM, and Woven?

thanks! I cant wait to follow in your footsteps, its looking amazing with the painted bilge, I will be doing that for sure! it looks awesome.

Thanks for putting your rebuild on here, it has helped me, and I am sure it will help many others, your level of craftsmanship is very high, I am impressed!

Thanks!

Thanks!

First I have to say, I stopped keeping track a while back. It was starting to depress me. I figured what I do not know cannot hurt me. I am financing this rebuild in a very creative way. I deal with very wealthy customers and when they want to upgrade their home theater equipment, I keep all their old stuff. I have so much laying around it is pitiful. So I started selling the stuff on ebay. It all still works fine, but it is just old. I was amazed at how much money I have made. So I have not had to dip into the family funds yet.

Anyway on to what I have used.

1. I did buy some front motor mounts from ebay since my old ones are rusted. I did not replace the transom plate though. As far as the wood, I replaced the transom, two of the ski ladder mounts, 1.5 foot of the starboard stringer and a little of the deck.

2. I have used 5 gallons of resin, 4 of the large packages of CSM from west marine, 8 yards of 6 oz woven, 2 large packages of 1708 biax from west marine, about 6 paint brushes, 20 of the quart size mixing cups, 10 1" rollers, 1 roller handle (it got so nasty I threw it away), 1 4X8 sheet of oak plywood, two gallons of acetone... I think you get the idea.

You will use twice the amount you think you need.

I might make a video later tonight that goes over everything if you would like.

Does that $20 cover the bucket and the cleaner? I saved an episode of musclecar on spike that went over the quadrajet rebuild, and I re-watched it last night. That carb has alot of tiny crap in it.

Cool! I like the Videos you have been making, they are awesome.

It really provides a great amount of insight.

I am dealing with finals this week. but on Thursday its on. I have a cherry picker and have measured the proper distance, I had to dig a bit of a hole for my boat with the bobcat, but I should clear just fine now.

how are the ski ladder mounts done? I am interested in that. I will look tonight after work.

Thank you so much for your videos, they do help quite a bit. I am excited to see you get a 350 in your boat. that is my dream, but I chose to do a stereo instead.

how hard was it to remove the outdrive? did you take it off before you pulled the motor or after?

Yes, $20 for a 1 gallon bucket with cleaner in it. Over under the spray carb cleaner. I think Bearyman makes it.

Outdrive SUPER easy to remove

1. put shifter as far forward as possible
2. remove trim rams from outdrive
3 remove 6 bolts holding outdrive to gimbal house
4. remove outdrive

As far as the youtube thing goes, I think there is a mod that allows you to use the [youtube] code like you do with the pictures. I wonder if the mods would install it?

It wasn't even on a mod on my board...just had to enter the code for the tags to work. in PHPBB3 it was as simple as adding a new BBCode 'shortcut'

BBCode usage:
[YouTube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v={TEXT}[/YouTube]

HTML Replacement:
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/{TEXT}" width="425" height="350">
<param name="movie" value="http://youtube.com/v/{TEXT}" />
<param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
</object>

I spoke with the guy at the company and he said do not put down more than two coats and you will be ok. Then if you want to go over it with smooth you can. He said something about how it bonds, and that it would be splotchy with just one coat of texture. So that is what i will do, and if I want to smooth it out I will order a quart of smooth. What did you not like about the texture? Does it hurt your feet?

I liked the texture, I think my problem was I put 3 thick coats on, and it was too much. The rubberized texture has give to it, so didn't hurt my feet at all. Actually it's kinda nice. If you spend any time on the knees it starts to be a drag. The issue I had with the heavy texture, was sweeping up dirt with a broom, and getting the dirt into a dust pan. It likes to stay in all the nooks and divits. I think you'll be good with 2 coats of texture. I guess see what it's like with 2 coats. If I did it over again I would still top-coat immediately with non-texture so no surface prep would be needed. I think if the Durabak is cured and a few weeks later you decide to add a non-tex top coat, I think you need to rough up the surface again. You will be happy with this stuff dude! Cabelas has great deals on carpet. Some killer grey that would look awesome with color of deck and interior. You still gonna do the snap-in style?
