Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome
thanks, gents. hope to be back more regularly. i may have to break down and get an internet link at home.
GA, i did say "or"
JB, hard water is one of them newfangled concepts that ain't made it to west TX yet. when it's cold enough to be hard, there's no water.
CONTINUING THE SAGA OF MISSPENT TIME AND $.....
>>my little 36 qt fishbox is the wrong size for a real boat and doesn’t hold ice worth a durn, so I’m ordering a dedicated 54 qt one for this boat. It will live under an insulated seat box just forward of the steering console, almost the exact same width as console. Front of box will fold down to let me remove cooler, and seat will pivot up for quick access for a beer or to stow a cuda etc. plan is to cover cushion on top of box, and sides, with Sunbrella in some nice pattern (cheeep on fleebay).
>>I paid off the house after 23 years, so I now have a little more $ to put into the boat each month. :watermelon: Until we buy a place in the hot springs district of T or C..........
>>you may recall me agonizing on where to put the horn. It’s going on the side of console just below the throttle lever....works fine, no wiring to string to bow, much less salt water up the snoot. No brainer.
>>found a hole saw the right size for the 3 big gauges, so I don’t have to do the hogging out plan with a sanding drum.
>>figured out how to finish the auxiliary knee braces, and how to tie the whole assembly to the ribs. Basically going to bend more .080 aluminum sheet to connect the ribs to stringers on the OUTboard side of each stringer, as well as the existing riveting on the inboard side. I’ll post pix soon once aluminum gets here so this will make more sense.
>>I need a grab bar just like factory Mariners had and am going to bend something very similar....a 1" hickey should work for alum tubing. It will be 4 legs and will remove for storage when you loosen the setscrews on the bases, and the windshield will be attached to this instead of to the console proper.
>>I’m thinking on going with the “homely” plan for exterior, ie, leave it as is. Save $, saves time, makes boat look less like it has anything worth stealing aboard.
>>you may recall the trailer bunk bracket I’d mangled with hammer and 20 ton press. Obi Wan Tinobi came to me in a dream, or maybe it was the Ghost of Fishing Trips Future, and suggested I use the Force [of 1.5" steel tubing and the BFH] to open it up again. I was able to get it straightened. It would only have been $8 to replace but it’s the principle.
>>I finally figured out how to connect the vertical members to tie the angled dash to deck, so I have something to stick a sturdy bulkhead to for lockable storage. This will be easier to show in pix than explain.
HERE ARE A FEW RANDOM PIX in no particular order, but just to keep the mob at bay til i have pix of Progress to post
a semi final pic of the auxiliary knee barcing

and of the crack in the original knee brace

here's the "eyeball" of the Morse docking lights separated. i just worked at it, tapping a thin putty knife into joint for about 1/2 hr til i finally was able to get it apart. still not sure how to get the bulb out, but when the new ones arrive, i'll just destroy the old one as needed to remove and figure out how to install new.
