25hp to 35hp with carb swap???

Owned a number of '50s and '60s 35s and '40s. Maybe yours were set too rich?

    Carb float drop

What's the drop on yours when level with the edge of the inverted top?

    Wouldn’t Turn Over

Not sure about the neutral safety switch on yours. Could make it tough to get home from your fishing spot.

    Head Bolts - reusable?

Definitely want to resurface the head before bolting it up -- want to do that anyway, but think it might relieve stress on the bolts. Torque them down in stages using a circular pattern starting in the middle -- think the rule is two-stages for tightening, but maybe three or four would be...

    Carb float drop

If you want to fool around with it, would be curious to hear what your float drop is, when the float appears to be level with the edge of the inverted bowl.

    Evinrude Issue

Measure spark on each. Probably little or no spark on the lower.

    What year 85 HP Johnson

I think it's 0318372, but should confirm that. You may be better off ordering one -- but then I don't run a hardware store! (envy of everyone here)

    40 hp Evinrude not "peeing"

If potential overheating is a concern for your bud too, he should probably install a temp gauge (works off a sender mounted on the powerhead). Old style, but can still be found. Main thing is to change out the impeller every other year or so -- more if in silty water, like river running.

Johnson 4.5 hp SeaHorse lower unit

Thought it might be chicken soup. What's the deal with the hose out of the back of the leg?

    40 hp Evinrude not "peeing"

Don't like 'em (pee hoses/tell tales). More trouble than they are worth, imo. If water is coming out of the hole(s) on the back of the leg, the head is getting water. Check the top of the powerhead for overheating. An IR gun is very useful -- should see somewhere between 120f and 140F or...

    1958 18hp Fastwin Cuts Out

Don't have a good explanation, but I get that smoke/vapor/whatever with my motors when I open the cap while pressurized. Doesn't affect operation, and I think its a feature. Great systems. Fuel is pushed into the carb by the pressurized tank, not drawn in by the motor -- which pressurizes the...

    electrical

https://maxrules.com/graphics/omc/wiring/78-84_3-CYL_EL.jpg A little older, but believe the fuse is in the hot wire coming off the large solenoid post. If you reversed polarity, you may have burned out the rectifier, which would likely affect both battery charging and tach operation.

sudden power pack failure - Evinrude 115 v4

Probably heat from another part. Would try to run it if mine. Be sure you have fresh gas -- no water or other contaminants. Put some in a glass jar and see what settles out.

Johnson 4.5 hp SeaHorse lower unit

Look for a bolt underneath the plate just ahead of the prop. Take it out. Use a flat pry bar or something similar and run it on top of the gearcase housing. Put a block of wood under the skeg, and put a foot on each side of the leg standing on the pry bar. Rock a little and see if you can...

    Runs great for 30 seconds

Well, maybe water in the fuel. If built in tank(s), likelihood of water pretty high if the fuel is less-than-fresh. Transfer into a glass jar and let it settle out. Water would appear at the bottom, gas on top. Sometimes something simple.

    Wouldn’t Turn Over

yeah, a number of folks with time invested in your posts, so help the next guy (and responders). What was the fix? And in your own interest, there may be more to your issue than appears on the face of it.

    40 hp Evinrude not "peeing"

Incoming hose water is probably about 40F. Put it in a barrel if testing in the driveway -- water level well up the shaft. Grab an infrared tester somewhere and check the temp on the top of the powerhead that way. Should replace the water pump impeller if you don't know when it was replaced...

    Wouldn’t Turn Over

https://forums.iboats.com/threads/2001-johnson-40-not-turn-over.744263/ OK, one more time around. The motor must be in neutral to start. While turning the key to start (turn and hold there), rock the gearshift back and forth and see if the motor cranks. If successful, remember that spot when...
