Wanna drive a little? Down in Asheville, NC. No idea on condition or how complete. $500 3.0 mercury cruiser engine

Seller says a complete one for $800 in Birmingham. mercury 140 motor and outdrive 3.0

Some thing to check or look at, TTTC. Do you have a budget figure?

Hey, thanks GA. Budget???? I that where I don't spend my house payment on the boat?,lmao. Yeah it's a little tight right now. Well one thing at a time. I'm wanting to get my tank ordered so it can be built and get here. That's almost 500 hundred there. Custom belly tank man! I will keep looking, like I said I'm going pull my other outdrive and play with it for a while. I let the crowd know what I come up with

Okay so now were getting to slow and not so fun part. Been outside with the following tools: drill, wire wheel brush(didnt someone say that's very tedious) towels and goof-off. Wait did I say wire wheel??? Howin the h---:twitch: This will take a while.

See all the carp there above the floor line where some idiot thought it was a good idea to glue carpet on the sides

Going to try to make it all look like that one spot I worked on, got to for the gluvit on the seams. Several weekends of this I'm afraid.

The Uraglow reads like a good product & choice for aluminum, but wasn't/isn't Easypoxy? I don't think Ez will ever be referencing & referring anyone to it.

Best of luck navigating somewhat uncharted territory TTT w/ Uraglow. If you do decide to use it or another non-typical choice in paint, please keep us up to date on it's details & how it goes. Someone has to be 1st ;)....

Easypoxy was single part. Don't mess with the single part so-called "marine paints". They aren't likely to be any better than Rustoleum. However, two part paints will be superior.

Yeah ^^ I meant that Easypoxy was (is) thought of as a decent product, and a good choice for use on aluminum

Yeah, I have been doing more research, going to bite the bullet and use the two part paint. I want a nice durable finish when I'm done. Considering how much this boat will be beached during the summer months. My boys love to run 18 mile island on the Ohio. Great fishing and camping, so yeah I need something tough

Re: 1968 starcraft hoilday 18 i/o 120

Okay, since Jason mentioned it, I been rolling around the idea for a few days and keeps growing on me:D. Will my boat even hold together if I repower with say I don't know..... 4.3 mercrusier??? :behindsofa:

So here's my short list: pro

Already have a power steering outdrive setup for one:)rockon:

Can find the v-6 pretty easy down here in the bluegrass

Will be one h$&$ of a ride in the alum boat, my kids would love it.

Con list:

More weight in stern

To much power for boat??!!

Would probably lose my seats on each side of the doghouse.( room for v-6 versus I-4 )
Just throwing it out there. If I'm crazy for it please tell me now, so I can go back to my tame version. I think the 6 cylinder would have rename the boat brand to burning Starcraft, lol

Feed it, nurture it, let it continue to grow:joyous:

Yes, yes I know trust me, I like the idea:flame: let's see what the mob says. I'm just worried about too much engine not enough boat. Making new motor mount stringers( or more like adding them), reinforcement of the transom??? Of course you didn't have to the islander so..... I'm thinking doable.

Just thought of my seating in back, it would just become custom built then:D. The monster is growing

There is no reason NOT to put a 4.3 in an 18' SC.

There 2 votes for the pro side, Hmmm glad I'm looking at a big custom belly tank. Man I can see it now, that boat would scream on the water. 50 mph+???

All I got to say is the SC glasser's are doing it....

Although in a heavier & probably wider boat.......

Re: 1968 starcraft hoilday 18 i/o 120

Well, here's the big pro to this idea, I have everything except a block. I have heads,(rebuild) manifolds,( need a cleaning) wire harness, gauge harness, wiring for the trim motor, etc, etc, well I guess it's called uncharted territory cause no one has done it, why not. Worst case is that I can't go wot. Make one hell of a tubing boat for the kiddies.

And here's a crazy thought, thru hull exhaust????...... Now I'm going beyond, lmao

Re: 1968 starcraft hoilday 18 i/o 120

Okay, so now I'm researching the weight difference. Not that big of a difference in weight, maybe 100-200 lbs between engines sizes( 4 to 6 cylinder). Of course bigger fuel tank, heavier flooring, but getting rid of wood structure for alum. Still be on the plus side of the weight but I think it's very doable combination. Of course the extra weight would help with the prop size. Was kinda playing with that and looks like maybe a 25 pitch prop. I know I'm way out from this but, checking all my resources before I decide. And of course what my fellow i boaters thnk.:D

I don't know if the top speed would go up much, but gettin' there quick would be fun. :D The weight isn't much different between them, like you said. And the transom is still the same. You really can't beef up the transom anyway.

On the width, Maybe Jason can lay a tape on his to see how wide it is. Considering you have the fuel pump and oil filter hanging off one side, I bet you might be surprised how small the difference is. Those things are tucked under the riser on the V-6.

One more vote yay.

So you would be looking at say 180 -200 HP for the 4.3 depending on the carb? Sounds perfect to me!

That's kind of a cool thought you put in his head Jason. 4.3 Alpha complete is 860lbs. If it's a Thunderbolt LX 4 barrel it's 205 hp:D The PO of my 201 said it went 65mph ( this has yet to be proven), should be an interesting project.

I didnt think about that. Hmmm there is all that garbage hanging off the side of the engine. Yeah is just goofing on the top speed, don't even know what the top speed is with a 4 cylinder in it.

Yeah maybe 175 at least, would be fun.

I get roughly 31" wide and 37" out from the transom at the top of the engine.

Hey thinks for the info jas, I will check on that this afternoon. Well I'm convinced 4.3 merc it is:D
